About Reijer Stolk

A Dutch graphic artist working in the early twentieth century, he moved fluidly between rigorous anatomical study and the geometric abstraction that was reshaping European art between the wars. Trained in the academic tradition, he drew the human body with the precision of someone who understood muscle and bone before he understood line - and that grounding shows even in his most pared-down compositions. His work sits at an interesting hinge point: figurative discipline meeting the formal experiments of the De Stijl era.
