About Gaspar Homar

Among the great Catalan Modernisme designers, he stands slightly apart - less famous than Gaudí, but arguably the movement's finest furniture maker and interior designer. Trained in the Barcelona workshop of Francesc Vidal, he opened his own studio in 1893 and went on to design complete interiors for the Lleó Morera and Navàs houses, two of Modernisme's defining commissions. His marquetry panels, with their dreamy figures set among flowers and pondside reeds, brought a distinctly Mediterranean sweetness to the broader Art Nouveau vocabulary. For anyone drawn to the decorative confidence of turn-of-the-century Barcelona, his work remains one of the period's quiet pleasures.
