About James Jebusa Shannon

Trained at the South Kensington Schools in London, this American-born painter built his career inside the British establishment, becoming one of the most sought-after society portraitists of the late Victorian and Edwardian era. Born in 1862 and active until his death in 1923, he was a founding member of the New English Art Club and earned a knighthood in 1922 for his contributions to portraiture.
