About Albert Von Keller

Trained in Munich under Arthur von Ramberg and Wilhelm von Diez, this Swiss-born painter became one of the central figures of the Munich Secession when it broke from academic convention in 1892. He moved easily between society portraiture and stranger territory: medieval reveries, scenes of religious ecstasy, studies of women in trance states that drew on his genuine interest in spiritualism and parapsychology. The handling is loose and atmospheric, often closer to mood than narrative. For collectors today, his work offers a late-nineteenth-century sensibility that feels neither dusty nor decorative - portraits and figures carrying real psychological weight, painted with the confidence of someone who knew exactly what he wanted to leave unsaid.
